Sherborne Area Partnership

Sherborne Area Partnership was established in October 2003 to work with local people, voluntary, commercial and statutory organisations to develop an agreed Action Plan for Sherborne and the surrounding villages.  Our primary objective has been to identify gaps in services or problems with existing ones and then work together to improve matters.  The Partnership is funded by West Dorset District Council, Sherborne Town Council, Dorset County Council and Magna Housing.

SAP has 3 part-time staff - Nigel Engert (Partnership Co-ordinator - 2nd photo), Caz Rowland (Community Development Officer - 3rd photo) and Sally Westlotorn (Partnership Administrator - 4th photo).

We are managed by a Steering Group which last met on Monday 8th September.  It next meets on Monday 10th November at the Gryphon Conference Centre.

Our AGM (see the attached poster and agenda) is at 6.30pm on Thursday 25th September in the Gryphon School Conference Centre.  In addition to the formal business, Lizzie Kingsbury (a member of our Steering Committee as well as being the SHARP Learning Manager at the Gryphon School) will be launching the Sherborne Access Survey "Know Your Pavements" for public discussion.  There will be a large scale map of the town on display to which problems not already identified can added using coloured pins.  The amended map will then be used at the basis for remedial work.

We are based at the Sherborne Town Council offices (see top photo) at The Manor House, Newland, Sherborne DT9 3JL (tel 01935 816961) or email Nigel Engert.

For 18 months from July 2004 onwards, SAP carried out a series of Community Consultation Roadshows within Sherborne and its surrounding villages as well as liaising with Parish Councils, many of whom had already produced or were in the process of producing Parish Plans. We made contact with as many local people as possible, including those who do not normally express their views, to find out what they thought about local services. The definitive Sherborne Area Action Plan 2006-9 which was developed as a result of this process is now available via this webite (see the Community Consultation section).

SAP works in partnership with a number of existing organisations such as the Chamber of Trade & Commerce (COT), the Transport Action Group (TAG), the Sherborne Safer Neighbourhood Team, Sherborne Churches Together and Sherborne Area Over 50s Group .

We have a marquee for local hire at very reasonable rates - £15.00 per day for charities or £20.00 for commercial organisations.  Contact us on 01935 816961 for more details and availability.

We also host work experience students from elsewhere in Europe via the EU LEONARDO Programme. Visit the "Contact SAP" section of this website for more information.
