If you are looking for an excellent fun and action packed day out for all the family, you'll love the Great Dorset Steam Fair. Traditionally this English fair is held at the village of Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford Forum in the heart of the beautiful Dorset countryside.

From small beginnings this annual event has become one of the favoured places for those interested in how people lived, worked and played in bygone years and it is now widely recognised as "THE" National Heritage Show as well as being regarded as the leading show of its type in the World. The spectacle covers an enormous showground, at over 600 acres being one of Europe's largest outdoor event locations. 2010 will see the show in its 42nd year.

Wed 08 September - Thu 16 SeptemberDorset Architectural Heritage Week

Dorset Architectural Heritage Week is an annual event which aims to stimulate public awareness of Dorset's rich architectural and cultural heritage by allowing free access to many properties that are normally closed to the public or charge for entry.

The first half of the week is part of the national Heritage Open Days but Dorset contains such a wealth of fascinating architecture that the events continue in the County for a further four days!

Since 1994 Dorset Architectural Heritage Week (DAHW) has developed to such a degree that the Dorset Conservation Officers now work in partnership with East Dorset Heritage Trust to organise the week-long event. (Read more on About DAHW on their website.)

Sat 11 SeptemberCharlton Down Shouts to raise funds for Cricket Club
Charlton Down Cricket Club (CDCC) is hosting its second live music event ‘CD Shouts 2010’.   1pm until 11pm at Charlton Down Cricket Ground. All profits from the event will be reinvested into the Club’s facilities and the maintenance of the widely used grounds. The club is used by over 100 cricketers of all ages and abilities from the surrounding areas and communities.  Visitors to CD Shouts will be entertained by music from up and coming local bands, including ‘Epic Journey’, who will headline at this year’s event.  There will be face painting, a children’s bouncy castle, carousel and Segways for hire, as well as fresh local food, a Real Ale, Cider and Pimms Tent.  The Club’s bar will also be open.  CD Shouts organiser Rudo Wormgoor explains: “Last year our event was very well supported by the local community and helped the Club raise over £1,250 which went towards paying for the new cricket nets.  We have three CDCC teams that use the facilities, along with four other cricket teams and additional bookings, and we need to raise funds for new sporting and grounds maintenance equipment.  We look forward to welcoming the community back again this year and hope they continue to support this free event.”  Entry to CD Shouts 2010 is free.

Sun 24 OctoberSherborne International Film Festival 2010
Sherborne has had a long association with the creative arts – poets and writers have been coming here since the 18th century but actors and more particularly, film actors, have also been connected to the town. It requires a degree of initiative, however, to keep up-to-date with new films and particularly those that do not appear on the main distribution circuit. Non English-speaking films are often overlooked and yet there are exceptional film directors and actors who transcend the accepted conventions of the English-speaking world and who can bring us fresh insights and startling discoveries that will enrich our senses.
Hence the attempt to bring some of these films into our midst: to entertain, to inform and perhaps to astonish us! Visit the website to view the films to be shown.
