Working with local people is our highest priority. We want to make sure that we meet as many of you as possible so that we can find out what you think about life in Sherborne and the surrounding area, as well as how to improve it.
We are particularly keen to hear from people who do not normally take part in the democratic process. This may be because they do not think their views will be listened to, or they are isolated by old age and/or disability, or they have work or family commitments which occupy virtually all their time.
We had over 1000 responses from members of the public who met us during our Community Consultation or Parish Roadshows which took place during the latter part of 2004 and in early 2005. We identified a number of important issues which concerned many people - more affordable housing, better paid employment, easier access to swimming pools, better policing in the evenings etc. Over 500 questionnaires were returned following their distribution in association with a special newsletter the "Sherborne Messenger" that was delivered to 4000 households in Sherborne during March & April 2005.
The draft version of our Action Plan was launched at the Sherborne Area Forum on 10th February 2006 for public consultation until 7th May. We have included and prioritised all the significant issues in the definitive Sherborne Area Action Plan 2006-2009, which was launched on Wednesday 1st November 2006 in association with a Local Organisations Exhibition. The Action Plan Summary 2006-09 & Volunteering Opportunities booklet was distributed throughout the Sherborne Area during April & May 2007. Let us know if you have not received a copy and we will send you one.
We have also been busy setting up local Forums for individuals with a wide range of special needs or shared interests, as well as the statutory and voluntary organisations that work with and for them. See the "Working with Groups" section of this website for the details.
