The Manor House
The Manor House in Newland is the home to the Town Council. It also houses the Northern Area office of West Dorset District Council, Women's Royal Voluntary Service, Citizens Advice Bureau, Sherborne Area Partnership, Magna Housing Agency, Oriel Architecture and Apex Care.
The building was recently purchased by the Town Council from West Dorset District Council who had taken control of it in 1974 following the re-organisation directed by the Local Government Act 1972.
It's origins date back to the 15th or 16th century but it was never a Manor House. It was previously occupied by the Durnfords family, Mr Okes a coach master, Mr Beale the Master of the Bristol and Weymouth Wagons, and the Madame Vantini School for Young ladies. It is believed that the name Manor House was falsely attributed by the misuse of headed note-paper by a previous occupant.
