Light in the darkness: music for Winter and Christmas

Yeovil Chamber Choir is performing its first concert under the baton of their new Musical Director – William McElwee. Yeovil with a concert of choral music reflecting the season of Winter.  Founded in 1992 by Antony Saunders, the choir draws its members from Somerset and Dorset, and sings a wide range of classical music, both sacred and secular.

The main works will be the motet and mass O Magnum Mysterium by the Spanish composer Tomás Luis de Victoria.  There will also be some well-known choruses from Handel’s Messiah, and Purcell’s King Arthur, and Break forth O beauteous heavenly light from J S Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.  The programme is completed by carols by Robert de Pearsall, Gustav Holst, and arrangements by David Willcocks of The Sussex Carol and the French carol Quelle est cette odeur agréable.  There will also be the opportunity for the audience to join in and show off their singing skills.

The choir welcomes organist Robert Langston for the first time who will accompany the in several items.
