The Juritz-Briggs Violin and Piano Duo
Exciting Violin and Piano Duo to visit Sherborne - Juritz Briggs Duo: JURITZ BRIGGS DUO

Virtuoso violinist David Juritz and renowned British concert pianist, Sarah Beth Briggs will visit Sherborne School on Thursday 19th September to work with students in a masterclass and give a recital in the Tindall Recital Series at 7.30pm. Both David and Sarah are highly acclaimed recording artists and sought after performers nationally and internationally. David is also well known in Dorset as the Artistic Director of the Burton Bradstock Festival.

David and Sarah first collaborated in the early 1990s and were initially brought together musically by a deep commitment to the music of Mozart. David was a longstanding leader of the famed London Mozart Players and is a consummate interpreter of Mozart’s chamber music and Sarah jointly won the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg and has since been highly praised for her interpretations of Mozart in performance and recordings.

In 2018 they came together in the Briggs Piano Trio (with ‘cellist Kenneth Woods) to record the music of another composer in which they have a shared interest – Hans Gál, alongside Shostakovich. Their trio recording was awarded a Gramophone Editor’s Choice in October 2018 and MusicWeb International Recording of the Month in November 2018.

From 2019, in addition to the Trio, David and Sarah have been working together as a violin and piano duo, covering repertoire from classical to contemporary, but giving special focus to the sonatas of Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms and continuing to raise the profile of Austrian-British composer Hans Gál.

Simplifying Composition, Photography Workshop

Learning to distill a scene down to the core elements is a great skill for any advancing photographer. For those who wish to explore this approach we will look at reducing the visual ‘noise’ at any given location. Through certain techniques, both visual and within the camera, we can help you find order in the chaos. This approach to simplifying compositions can be transferred to any type of image making scenario, be it seascapes, woodland, urban or inner landscapes.

The main theme of this Simplifying Composition workshop in Dorset will be on exploring composition as a tool to create clean, graphic and compelling images. We will look at various ways to deconstruct the landscape around you to help bring coherency and order to your compositions. Seeing shapes & form as well as understanding how light and colour can compliment or diminish the balance of a scene.

An Evening with Charlie Waite at Buckhorn Weston

World renowned landscape photographer, Charlie Waite has been an advocate of ‘the photograph’ and the importance of engaging with the landscape through photography for over 30 years. Charlie proves through his own photography, the magical creative endeavor of his relationship with the natural world and how this transcends into a permanent record of beauty and the utmost respect for the world around him. His photographs are said to convey a quality of spirituality and calm and have an almost painterly quality.

Charlie conducts his talks with passion, humour and grace, and takes the audience on colourful and enchanting journey. Highly illustrated, his talks are enjoyable, uplifting and memorable with many finding inspiration to explore the natural world further embarking on their own personal journey with or without a camera.

In his talk 'Behind the Photograph', Charlie reveals the thought processes and the techniques behind each image, binding them into stories and sharing the anxieties and the joys which accompany their creation.

Join Charlie at Buckhorn Weston for this special event. The talk will begin at 7.00pm, please ensure you are at the venue by 6.45pm.  The event will finish at 9.00pm.  Light refreshments will be available.

Chicago (High School Edition)

This full-length musical has been adapted to become content-appropriate for youth performers, whilst still containing all the favourite musical numbers including All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango, When You're Good to Mama and Razzle Dazzle..
Broadway’s longest-running American musical, Chicago is a dazzling and satirical look at fame, justice, and the media machine. Set in 1920s Chicago and based on real-life murders and trials.
Chicago follows Roxie Hart, a wannabe vaudevillian star who murders her lover and is arrested, despite her attempts to convince her pushover husband, Amos, to lie for her. In the Cook County Jail, Roxie meets her hero, the famed double-murderess and nightclub performer Velma Kelly. When both acquire the same lawyer, the greedy and lustful superstar, Billy Flynn, tensions come to a head as they vie for the spotlight-- though instead of onstage, they’re performing for the flashbulb of the newspaper reporters.
With catchy music and timeless lyrics by John Kander
