A Seasonal Handtied Bouquet

Join us at Elementum Gallery for a relaxed morning learning the art of the handtied bouquet.

Led by expert local florist, Oonagh Langrishe, you will be guided through the process of creating your own handtied floral arrangement using seasonal blooms and foliage supplied by our friends at Black Shed Flower Farm. Oonagh will share advice about how to choose the best materials for the look you want and also how to care for your cut flowers at home. This style of bouquet was originally developed by florists as a method of quickly producing attractive, self-supporting arrangements and is a technique you can use time and again with flowers and foliage from your own garden.

This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those more experienced but who may want to try something different. To make the most of the morning, we've kept the class size small so early booking is recommended.

Included in the course: tuition, refreshments and a wide selection of blooms, foliage and materials to create a generous handtied bouquet.

£48.00 per person

Opera Holloway: La Boheme

In a seaside town on the south coast in England, four young men are living the youthful dream, yearning for love and not working too hard. Their flat is run down, they're content to live on take-aways, they complain when they run out of money and have perfected the art of dodging the landlord. Their lives are filled with trips to the pub, late night dancing and girls. Until Mimi knocks on the door. Rodolfo opens it, eyes and hands meet and a passionate affair begins. Follow the impoverished lovers as their relationship unfurls, from it’s joyous beginnings to the bitter end on a chilly promenade. This contemporary new production of Puccini’s thrilling, passionate love story captures the raw, consuming power of young love, performed in Opera Holloway's intimate and immediate style. Touring Dorset with Artsreach, the counties touring arts charity.

Simplifying Composition, Photography Workshop

Learning to distill a scene down to the core elements is a great skill for any advancing photographer. For those who wish to explore this approach we will look at reducing the visual ‘noise’ at any given location. Through certain techniques, both visual and within the camera, we can help you find order in the chaos. This approach to simplifying compositions can be transferred to any type of image making scenario, be it seascapes, woodland, urban or inner landscapes.

The main theme of this Simplifying Composition workshop in Dorset will be on exploring composition as a tool to create clean, graphic and compelling images. We will look at various ways to deconstruct the landscape around you to help bring coherency and order to your compositions. Seeing shapes & form as well as understanding how light and colour can compliment or diminish the balance of a scene.

An Evening with Charlie Waite at Buckhorn Weston

World renowned landscape photographer, Charlie Waite has been an advocate of ‘the photograph’ and the importance of engaging with the landscape through photography for over 30 years. Charlie proves through his own photography, the magical creative endeavor of his relationship with the natural world and how this transcends into a permanent record of beauty and the utmost respect for the world around him. His photographs are said to convey a quality of spirituality and calm and have an almost painterly quality.

Charlie conducts his talks with passion, humour and grace, and takes the audience on colourful and enchanting journey. Highly illustrated, his talks are enjoyable, uplifting and memorable with many finding inspiration to explore the natural world further embarking on their own personal journey with or without a camera.

In his talk 'Behind the Photograph', Charlie reveals the thought processes and the techniques behind each image, binding them into stories and sharing the anxieties and the joys which accompany their creation.

Chicago (High School Edition)

This full-length musical has been adapted to become content-appropriate for youth performers, whilst still containing all the favourite musical numbers including All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango, When You're Good to Mama and Razzle Dazzle..
Broadway’s longest-running American musical, Chicago is a dazzling and satirical look at fame, justice, and the media machine. Set in 1920s Chicago and based on real-life murders and trials.
Chicago follows Roxie Hart, a wannabe vaudevillian star who murders her lover and is arrested, despite her attempts to convince her pushover husband, Amos, to lie for her. In the Cook County Jail, Roxie meets her hero, the famed double-murderess and nightclub performer Velma Kelly. When both acquire the same lawyer, the greedy and lustful superstar, Billy Flynn, tensions come to a head as they vie for the spotlight-- though instead of onstage, they’re performing for the flashbulb of the newspaper reporters.
With catchy music and timeless lyrics by John Kander
