There is a vast collection of automobilia in the Charterhouse two day auction this month.

Many of these automobilia lots were once a common sight at garages and besides the road. Today they are hotly contested at auction where car and bike enthusiasts look to display these bright, colourful and decorative pieces in their garages, sheds and even their living rooms.

A watercolour drawing by Walter Langley is going under the hammer today.

Opera in Oborne - La Boheme

La Boheme - Performances  on Friday 2nd 2019

The most famous opera of them all, Puccini's La Boheme.  Everyone loves La Boheme! Whether it’s the fantastic music, the tears of joy and heartbreak for Rodolfo and Mimi, or the sheer style of bohemian Paris in La Belle Époque, everyone adores this most romantic of operas. If this is your first visit or your hundredth, La Boheme’s emotional charge is irresistible - and you certainly need those tissues!”

Opera in Oborne - Il segreto di Susanna.

Il segreto di Susanna.

What is Susanna hiding? Her husband’s suspicions are driving him wild. Will it destroy their marriage?  All is revealed in this hilarious 50 minutes of sparkling comic-opera at its tuneful best by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari.  “Il Segreto”, with its contemporary plot and catchy tunes, is a great example of why he was one of the most performed opera composers of the 1900’s.

Opera Holloway: La Boheme

In a seaside town on the south coast in England, four young men are living the youthful dream, yearning for love and not working too hard. Their flat is run down, they're content to live on take-aways, they complain when they run out of money and have perfected the art of dodging the landlord. Their lives are filled with trips to the pub, late night dancing and girls. Until Mimi knocks on the door. Rodolfo opens it, eyes and hands meet and a passionate affair begins. Follow the impoverished lovers as their relationship unfurls, from it’s joyous beginnings to the bitter end on a chilly promenade. This contemporary new production of Puccini’s thrilling, passionate love story captures the raw, consuming power of young love, performed in Opera Holloway's intimate and immediate style. Touring Dorset with Artsreach, the counties touring arts charity.

Simplifying Composition, Photography Workshop

Learning to distill a scene down to the core elements is a great skill for any advancing photographer. For those who wish to explore this approach we will look at reducing the visual ‘noise’ at any given location. Through certain techniques, both visual and within the camera, we can help you find order in the chaos. This approach to simplifying compositions can be transferred to any type of image making scenario, be it seascapes, woodland, urban or inner landscapes.

The main theme of this Simplifying Composition workshop in Dorset will be on exploring composition as a tool to create clean, graphic and compelling images. We will look at various ways to deconstruct the landscape around you to help bring coherency and order to your compositions. Seeing shapes & form as well as understanding how light and colour can compliment or diminish the balance of a scene.

An Evening with Charlie Waite at Buckhorn Weston

World renowned landscape photographer, Charlie Waite has been an advocate of ‘the photograph’ and the importance of engaging with the landscape through photography for over 30 years. Charlie proves through his own photography, the magical creative endeavor of his relationship with the natural world and how this transcends into a permanent record of beauty and the utmost respect for the world around him. His photographs are said to convey a quality of spirituality and calm and have an almost painterly quality.

Charlie conducts his talks with passion, humour and grace, and takes the audience on colourful and enchanting journey. Highly illustrated, his talks are enjoyable, uplifting and memorable with many finding inspiration to explore the natural world further embarking on their own personal journey with or without a camera.

In his talk 'Behind the Photograph', Charlie reveals the thought processes and the techniques behind each image, binding them into stories and sharing the anxieties and the joys which accompany their creation.

Join Charlie at Buckhorn Weston for this special event. The talk will begin at 7.00pm, please ensure you are at the venue by 6.45pm.  The event will finish at 9.00pm.  Light refreshments will be available.
