Yetminster Fair

Following the success of the 2016 Fair it is back this year on Saturday 8th July and we are striving to make it even better than before! Free parking and Free entry!

We will have a myriad of stalls along the High Street with the main arena outside the White Hart (which will be open for the whole event and which will also be hosting an evening entertainment event).

We are organising a full schedule of events which we hope will include the Yetminster Irish Dances, No Mean Feet, the Quayside Cloggies and a 15 piece Ukele band. The Jubilee Hall will be in use and will have cream teas and a display by a model boat club. We hope to link with events at the Gallery and the Ark, with the Sports & Social Club and we are discussing the possibility of a Scouts Mini Jamboree.

Abbey 104 have been asked to bring their Road Show and we will have the Yeovil Town Crier to keep us all in order after the traditional parade at 1.00pm led by the Wessex Highland Pipe Band.

Special guest Valerie Singleton will “officially” open the fair this year!

Seckou Keita - 22 Strings

Seckou Keita has arguably become the most influential and inspiring kora player of his generation, an exceptional and charismatic musician and a true master of this wonderful instrument

One of the leaders of the newest generation of African traditional musicians, Seckou fuses the traditional forms and instruments of Senegal with those of other cultures. In his award-winning 2015 album 22 Strings, Seckou explores what it means to be a modern global citizen, and yet to live with seven centuries of tradition and heritage expressed through music. He gives us the kora in its purest guise, a wondrous instrument that can soothe the bloodlust of warriors and take the human spirit to a place of deep meditation, stillness and beauty.

Combined with evocative vocals, expect an unforgettable musical experience.

The Jar Family

A collective of singer/songwriters whose sum of their parts is even more than their individual talents.

Five equally strong front-men and a vast array of carefully crafted songs of multiple genre and tempo from folk to indie rock, the band has attracted lots of interest on the live scene (including supporting Alabama 3 on two UK tours).  This is their second recent visit to Somerset.  Previously they were given a standing ovation at the David Hall, South Petherton, where it was said to have been the best gig at the hall in 14 years.

Miracle Theatre - The Third Policeman

This summer Cornwall's Miracle Theatre ventures into a world somewhere between Alice in Wonderland and Father Ted, where the earth is not round but sausage-shaped; where eccentric policemen fall in love with bicycles and you can visit eternity via a rickety lift, hidden beside a lane in the heart of rural Ireland. With its hilarious characters, streaks of dark humour and unforgettable plot twist, The Third Policeman earned its author, Flann O'Brien, a world-wide reputation as one of Ireland's great comic geniuses. O'Brien's scorching wit and delicious turn of phrase, combined with Miracle's delight in physical comedy and absurdity, has to be a winning combination. Fans of this cult classic and newcomers alike should expect the unexpected as Miracle Theatre return to the Artsreach circuit this summer!

Please note that these are open-air performances. Bring a cushion or rug to sit on, pack a picnic and wear warm/weatherproof clothing as appropriate. Recommended 8+
