Douzelage is a unique European town twinning organisation with, as our objective, a member town in every EU state.
Following the accession of ten new EU countries in 2004, we currently have 20 member towns with three prospective members going through the vetting procedure and a further two countries not, as yet, represented at all.
Despite our membership numbers, we retain our “Douze” as the EU retains its twelve stars (the number of original members) on its flag.
The Douzelage alliance was brought into being in 1992 and has as its objective to link the citizens of the partner towns in Culture, Education, Sport, Commerce and Tourism. “Opportunity & Friendship Across Europe” is our motto.
