WINSTONE’S – A NEW INDEPENDENT BOOKSHOP OPENS IN SHERBORNE

14 February 2012

Ex-Waterstone’s senior manager Wayne Winstone opens his first bookshop in Sherborne on Saturday 18 February 2012. The shop is located at the top of busy Cheap Street and opens as the existing bookshop in Hound Street closes.

The bookshop features approx 6,000 titles covering all the popular genres with a particular strength in children’s books. Wayne Winstone says, “As a bookseller there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a child engrossed in a book……we want to develop in children a life long love of books and reading.” Launch day on 18 February will feature visits from popular children’s characters Spot, Peter Rabbit and the Gruffalo, with activities for children, goodie bags and storytelling sessions.

Winstone’s is striving to position the shop at the heart of the community and is planning a strong local events programme, support for schools and events with local writers and artists. Events will be a major part of the business and we are inviting top authors and artists to join us and talk about their work.  We intend to make the shop available as a venue for local societies and reading groups.

“We are absolutely passionate about books and reading and want to create a place where readers of all tastes can meet and enjoy books,” says Wayne Winstone. “Not only do we have a huge choice of books, there is also a coffee area with deliciously made local cakes and a range of quality stationery.”
